crystalline structures...

"the growth of crystals is entirely compelling to me – growth in a non-living thing is absolutely amazing! moreover, it's fascinating the way each mineral has its specific growth structure which is consistent, yet depending on environmental variables each specimen is unique. "

the SHY light, by bec brittain

thoughtful design from a thoughtful creator.

"the SHY Light (taking its name from the initials of the designer's grandmother) uses the spare beauty of thin LED tubes to define the edges of its shape; in this way the function of the piece is created by its form, and vice-versa. it is also inspired by crystalline structures, both by the shapes they take as well as their growth. the modular hardware that comprises the SHY light can be reconfigured in a myriad of different ways, taking new shapes according to what the space demands; like crystals each can be different while sharing the same structural foundation. each piece can be hung in any orientation."

yet again, let me take you into the crazy web of randomness that is my thought process and personal navigation. so the other night somewhere between online "window shopping" and searching for pineapple printed baby harem pants... I came upon this brilliant lighting by bec brittain. [ thank you tenoversix for bringing bec and (yes!) pineapple printed baby harem pants into one place ] my crystal and lighting obsession is more then clear, so you pretty much have me at anything crystalline like. but the concept here is what is giving me the warm and fuzzies. love the idea of a warm and romantic presentation through structured geometric form.

and even beyond this lighting bec has a really inspiring background, including design director at lindsey adelman studio until 2011 when she launched her own project. I always find myself going back to my lindsey adelman post when I need a little inspiration. no doubt that I will be doing the same here.

in her bio she states...
"The aim is to create work towards which there is both an immediate sensual reaction to its form and material, as well as a more gradual appreciation of a larger idea."

in my opinion, done and done.
